Budget-friendly DIY Place Settings

December 19, 2017

Our friend and wedding planner extraordinaire, Ashley Borque, of Silver Celebrations and Chancey Charm, created four easy and budget-friendly holiday place settings that will add a little something special to any table. Whether you prefer a rustic feel, something more traditional, a clean/modern look, or anything but red and green, these combos have you covered.

Using items from Target's Threshold line and the new Hearth and Hand collection from Joanna Gaines (swoon-worthy stuff), Ashley created beautiful, light-on-the-wallet, and completely doable settings for just about every holiday vibe there is.

The Woodland Wonderland

If earthy greens, charcoals, and browns light up your life, then this is the setting for you. Ashley placed a neutral pocket-fold napkin with a flower-shaped seating card over Hearth and Hand's gorgeous mossy-green stoneware plate and metallic charger. It's paired with the same collection's casual but elegant glassware (we love the deep green goblet).

The Bright n' Sunny

Had enough of candy canes and holly? Breathe some fresh air into your holiday dinner with this cheerful and totally out-of-the-box color palette. Ashley used an envelope fold on a bright, floral-patterned napkin, and paired it with a sunny yellow plate (both from the Target Threshold line) and bright blue gift tag. It all works nicely with seasonal touches from the Hearth and Hand charger and glassware. Who says you can't make yellow festive?

The Cozy Modern Twist

Want something warm and inviting but with a little edge? Just a simple knot in a rich, holiday-toned napkin makes all the difference. Ashley took a deep red napkin with clean stitching, and mixed things up by tying a knot toward the top of the cloth. Lay it diagonally across a bright white plate and pair with a sprig of greenery to add a festive touch.

The Glammed Up Traditional

Bows aren't just for presents under the tree. For this look, Ashley draped a folded napkin over a grey stone plate, tucking the sides under, and cinched the middle with a complementary piece of ribbon she had at home. You could pull this look off with patterns, solid colors, metallics...the possibilities are endless. To give some dimension to this setting, pair it with a traditional folded seating card, and you've got the perfect balance of glamorous pop and old school vibes.
